Obituary for Betty Lou Hitchcock

Betty Lou (Rood) Hitchcock left this world on December 28, 2019, after a lengthy illness in Great Falls, Montana.

Betty was born October 26, 1929, to Henry W. and Ebba V. (Larson) Rood.  She joined brother, “Henry” Clyde Rood and they were later joined by sisters, Doris, Jean and Nancy.  Her early years were spent on the family's farm/ranch operation in the Bear Springs area of Central Montana.  She attended the local country school until she started high school in Denton.  She graduated from Denton High School in 1947.

Betty met her husband Robert and they were married on September 24, 1955.  To their union they had five children: Vicki, Kristi, Scott, Mike and Rob.  Betty enjoyed attending and watching her children and grandchildren play sports through the years at Denton High School.  She enjoyed the family vacations going to baseball games.  She would watch baseball games on TV with her family.  Betty retired from bookkeeping at the Farmer's Cooperative Elevator of Denton in the late 70's.  She then became an avid crocheter making afghans and Native American dolls for family; also, embroidering dish towels and pillow cases. Betty even learned the art of cake decorating.  One of the favorite things she liked to do was go to country concerts with Vicki and whoever else wanted to go with them.  She attended quite a few. Betty was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, Pinochle Club, Denton American Legion Auxiliary, and Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Betty is survived by her children; Kristi (Melvin) Martin of Denton and Geraldine, Mike of Denton, Vicki, Scott and Rob of Great Falls; eight grandchildren:  Kelly Hitchcock (Crystal) of Columbus, Korri (Wayne) Hofer of Fairfield, Karen (Holt) Madden of Billings, Laura Moore (Carl Lopez) of Lewistown, Kayla Hitchcock (Ryan Naylor) of Everett, WA, Brandon Hitchcock (Rachel Imlay) of Cut Bank, Jordan (Kim) Hitchcock of Cut Bank, and Brittney Hitchcock (Brandon Moregeau) of St. Ignatius; three step-grandchildren: Dave (Jade) Martin, Charles Martin all of Geraldine, and Julie (Brent) Sangster of Great Falls; twenty great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris (Dick) Erlandson of  Lewistown, Jean Henry of Cody, WY, and Nancy Taylor of Rockwood, TN; sisters-in-law, Ella Rindal of Roy and Barbara Martinson of Lewistown; brothers-in-law, Norman Coleman of Lewistown and Harold Levens of Bozeman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; her brother, Clyde; brothers-in-law, James Henry and Bobby Taylor; sisters-in-law, Vivian Coleman, Dorothy Levens, Carol Limpus, and brothers-in-laws, Dick Hitchcock, Melvin Rindal, Mike Limpus and Bob Martinson; son-in-law, Terry Albaugh; and granddaughter, Angel Hope Hitchcock.
