Obituary for Austin V. "Bud" Carpenter

Austin Vernon “Bud” Carpenter, 81, passed away on Saturday afternoon, September 28, 2019 with family by his side. Bud was born on July 17, 1938 in Alberta, Canada. 

Bud attended school in Clyde Park, Montana through the 9th grade. In 1957, he joined the U.S. Army and after his honorable discharge, he worked numerous jobs until finding his true passion of “over-the-road trucking.”  

Bud was united in marriage to Billy A. Monger and from this union three children were born. They later divorced. On July 29, 1979, Bud was united in marriage to Lois Phillips and her four children.  

Bud enjoyed snowmobiling, water sports, camping, hunting, and riding ATVs; but mostly family get-togethers and home cooked meals complete with dessert - as in pie and ice cream followed up with hot coffee. “10-4 Good Buddy.” 

Bud is survived by his children: William and Maria Carpenter, Dustin and Beth (Carpenter) Diteman, Bob and Kay (Carpenter) Fox all of Helena, MT Larry and Karen Phillips, Kevin and Jeanna (Phillips) Kucera, Brad and Lorrie (Phillips) Johnson, and Jeff and Margie (Phillips) Evans all of Lewistown, MT; grandchildren, Gianni and Hayley (Johnson) Freeo of Bozeman, MT, Austin Phillips, Jenaye Phillips, Joel and Eryn (Kucera) Valach all of Lewistown, MT, Thad Kucera of Bozeman, MT, Josh and Katelyn (Carpenter) Eldridge of Ohio, Porter Diteman, Nick and Tiffany Fox all of Helena, MT, and Mike and Lisa (Fox) Hahn of Whitefish, MT; great-grandchildren, Maeve Freeo of Bozeman, MT, Allison, Joslyn, and Gracie Eldridge of Ohio, Josh Hahn, Mackenzie and Peytan McMillan of Whitefish, MT, Marlee, Hayden, Beckett and Charlie Fox of Helena, MT; siblings, Irene (Carpenter) Burke of Alberta, Canada, Bob Carpenter (Gayee Marie Miller) of Helena, MT, and Patricia (Carpenter) Mitchell of Bozeman, MT; sister-in-law, Linda Petersen of Lewistown, MT; and several nieces and nephews. 

Bud is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Phillips Carpenter of Lewistown; granddaughter, Ashley Diteman of Helena, MT; and siblings, Velma (Carpenter) Vickers, Ray Carpenter, Ramona (Carpenter) Shepherd, Vivian (Carpenter) Benegar, Frank Carpenter, Shirley (Carpenter) Colvin, and Gary Freeman. 

A Celebration of Bud’s life will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m., October 4, 2019 at the Creel Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial donations can be made to CMMC Hospice.
