Obituary for Phyllis Ann Taylor

Phyllis A. Taylor passed away peacefully on May 30, 2019 at the age of 79 surrounded by her loving family.

Phyllis was the middle child of three born to June (Hickey) and Jesse Nessan on October 29, 1939 in Great Falls, MT. At an early age the family moved to Billings where she began her schooling before relocating to Moore, MT in the 8th grade. Phyllis continued her education graduating from Moore High School in 1957. She furthered her education at Montana State College (now University) in Bozeman earning a B.S.N. in 1961. Her nursing took her to California working a stint at Stanford University Hospital before returning to Montana and marrying her high school sweetheart Charles R. Taylor on December 29, 1966 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church.

Phyllis continued her nursing career in Lewistown working at St. Joseph’s Hospital until its closure and the opening of the Central Montana Medical Center. During her tenure as a nurse, she was the director of nursing for the hospital & nursing home at CMMC, later becoming the CMMC Nursing Home Administrator for 28 years. She also was the president of the Montana Healthcare Association for 8 years. Phyllis retired from nursing after 46 years of service in June of 2007.  Whether co-workers, patients, or residents, Phyllis impacted thousands of individuals and families in the greater Central Montana area during her lifetime.  She had unique gifts of both leading and caring for people, all while helping them through some of their most difficult times.

Family was important to Phyllis as she spent countless hours following her children’s and grandchildren’s various activities (sporting events, music concerts, weddings, graduations, and horse competitions).  She loved the holidays and time with family and friends. Phyllis also had a love of flowers and could be found every spring planting numerous planters.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and June Nessan, her brother Edward Nessan, and infant grandson Caleb Taylor.

Phyllis is survived by her spouse of 52 years, Charles Taylor, her four children and 8 grandchildren Michael (Kate) Taylor – Aidan, James, and Grace; Christine Zimmer – Anna, Kylie, and Sean; Mark (Elaine) Taylor – Morgan and Raegan; Tara Taylor, her brother Gary (Donna) Nessan as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins she was very fond of.

Phyllis’ Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo’s Catholic Church at 11a.m. on Wednesday June 5th with the Rite of Committal at Mount Calvary Cemetery followed by a luncheon at St. Leo’s Parish Center. Memorials are suggested to the CMMC Foundation or donor’s choice.
