Obituary for Larry M. Rummans

Larry Marlowe Rummans passed away with his family by his side on November 8th, 2019. He was born on September 24th, 1938 to Marlowe Kingsley Rummans and Margaret Harris Rummans.

He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from Drake University in 1962, where he received a Bachelor’s of Art degree. While in college he met Susan Shea and they married in spring of 1963. They had three children; David, Patrick and Laura.

Larry enlisted in the Marine Corps in May of 1962 and did his officers training at Quantico, Virginia. During his second tour in Vietnam he sustained a serious injury and received a Purple Heart. He loved the Corps and his Country, retiring with an honorable discharge in 1972.

Larry moved with his family to Utah to continue his education, receiving a teaching certificate. The family then moved to Montana where he took a teaching job with Lewistown Public Schools. He worked several different jobs over his lifetime including; the Spotted Horse Mine, ranch hand, sold oil land leases and opened the First Avenue Gym. Larry and Sue divorced 1995.

Larry suffered a stroke in the spring of 1998 and the last 21 years of his life have been a struggle where he fought to keep his independence. He was tough, stubborn, and proud and he never wanted to be a burden. Throughout his life, Larry enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, camping, his horses and dogs, being in the outdoors, and staying fit.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Marlowe Kingsley Rummans and Margaret Harris Rummans; and by the mother of his children, Sue Rummans. He is survived by his brother, Steve Rummans (Michelle); children, Dave Rummans (Renee), Patrick Rummans, and Laura Flugge; grandchildren, Joshua Burnham (Sara), Emily Matthews (Connor), Jaden Flugge, Jeremey Flugge (Jamie), Kendra Charron (Mike) and Meranda Flugge; great-granddaughters, Ella Flugge, Macey Charron and Etta Marlowe Matthews; extended family, Rachel Shea, Charles and Louise Kuester, Chuck, Bob and Tom Kuester.
